Holding Pattern

March 3 - April 9, 2023 (at KMAC Museum, Louisville, KY)
April 21 - May 20, 2023 (at TSA GVL Gallery, Greenville, SC)

Over the past decade, the value of what we call “technology" became largely correlated with its ability to gather and hold information — data. Today — in algorithms and AI, science and social media — the highest value is assigned to technologies that hold data and the stories that can be derived from it to give it meaning.

But is this really new? Holding Pattern examines how fiber arts helped create the template for our current understanding of what makes a technology valuable, and how contemporary works deserve consideration as technologies that hold both data and story. And, while fiber artwork that employs contemporary digital is usually framed as doing something “new,” it actually reveals a relationship that already existed.

Devin Harclerode: Soft Body, No Limbs

September 3 - 25, 2021 (at TSA GVL Gallery, Greenville, SC)

Soft Body, No Limbs is a mutation and meditation on labor. Composed of works made in the past two years, the exhibition calls on the worm, the curtain, and the scab as actors within enmeshed histories of gender, geography, and work. Through abstracting a market that both collapses and violently splits the private and public; Soft Body, No Limbs offers a deviated fruit.

Devin Harclerode is a transdiscplinary artist that uses speculative discourse to rival oppressive phenomena in contemporary society. Harclerode holds an MFA in Painting + Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth, and a BFA in Painting from The University of Florida.
